Flore Hartout
OBR
Date of birth: 16 June 1999
Place of birth: Rouen, France
It all started with an idol: Samantha Davies. When Flore was 10 years old, she looked up to Sam racing her bright pink Roxy IMOCA and would beg her parents to take her to every race start she could. Around that same time, Flore discovered dinghy sailing and was instantly hooked.
From Optimists to Open Bics, Lasers, 420s, and team racing, she loved the competition and the atmosphere around events just as much as the racing itself. For five years, she raced around Europe on all kinds of boats. Some highlights include becoming Double League Champion on Open Bic in Normandy, racing at the Open Bic Worlds in Lake Garda, and being ‘spotted’ to move up to Lasers and 420s, the Olympic boats of the time. She competed at the Laser World Championships in the Netherlands and skippered a 420 while training at the Pole Espoir Le Havre and with the French National Youth Sailing Team.
After a few intense years, Flore pressed pause on competitive sailing to focus on her studies in oceanography and physical geography at the University of Southampton. But her connection to the sea only grew stronger. Passionate about storytelling at sea, she taught herself photography, filmmaking, and onboard reporting, chasing a clear dream: to become an OBR for The Ocean Race.
Today, Flore works full-time with Team Malizia as editor, videographer, photographer, and onboard reporter. She’s already sailed over 18,000 miles with The Clipper Race, reporting on the Pacific and Atlantic, and hasn’t looked back since. With a natural connection to the ocean and a talent for capturing raw, real moments, she brings audiences closer to life offshore with every story she tells.
