Crew Member
French two-time competitor in The Ocean Race Kevin Escoffier’s ocean racing track record is an interesting blend of shorthanded and fully crewed experience.
In 2005 – sailing with his father Franck-Yves Escoffier – he won the double-handed Thransat Jacques Vabre aboard the Multi 50 trimaran Crêpes Whaou! 2.
He followed that in 2009 with a record-setting three day, 15 hour run across the Atlantic as part of the crew of the maxi-multihull Banque Populaire V.
In 2012 – once again fully-crewed on Banque Populaire V – Escoffier (42) set a new reference time for racing nonstop around the world after completing a lap of the planet in 45 days and 13 hours.
In 2014-15 he raced to third in his first participation in The Ocean Race with the Chinese entry Dongfeng Race Team and in 2017-18 was victorious with the same team after they snatched victory just a few miles from the finish of the final leg into The Hague in the Netherlands.
Escoffier made international headlines in 2020 during his first attempt at the solo nonstop around the world Vendée Globe race when he had to take to a liferaft after his IMOCA PRB suddenly broke up and sank in the South Atlantic. After a 12-hour search coordinated by the race organisers and international rescue services Escoffier was rescued by fellow competitor Jean Le Cam.
In November 2022 – racing his new Holcim – PRB IMOCA in the open ocean for the first time – Escoffier finished fourth in the solo Route du Rhum transatlantic race from his home town St. Malo to Guadeloupe in the Caribbean.
