Charlie Enright
Skipper
Now in charge of his third consecutive challenge for The Ocean Race, 38-year-old American yachtsman Charlie Enright brings a wealth of experience to the US campaign, having raced around the world twice previously – with Team Alvimedica in 2014-15 and Vestas 11th Hour Racing in 2017-18.
Born and raised close to the sea in the town of Bristol, Rhode Island, Enright learned to sail as a youngster and went on to captain the sailing team at Brown University before beginning a sailmaking career with North Sails.
He famously first met his now close friend and co-founder of the 11th Hour Racing Team, Mark Towill, when the pair were selected to join a crew of youngsters racing to Hawaii aboard a TP52 in the 44th edition of the classic Transpac race for the Disney movie Morning Light.
In 2019 Enright skippered the Volvo Open 70 Wizard – previously Franck Cammas’ 2011-12 edition winning Groupama 4 to overall victory in the Rolex Fastnet Race.
Later that year Enright and French co-skipper Pascal Bidégorry completed the double-handed Transat Jacques Vabre transatlantic race aboard the 11th Hour Racing Team IMOCA M?lama – an achievement he ranks as his greatest sailing accomplishment so far.
