GUYOT environnement - Team Europe

Benjamin Dutreux

Skipper

France

Benjamin Dutreux (32) grew up surrounded by water on Île d'Yeu off the western coast of France. As well as an accomplished ocean race sailor he is an experienced materials technician in the yacht building industry and a committed campaigner for marine conservation.

He was taught to sail by his grandfather and first sailed competitively as a teenager before advancing to the French national sailing squad. Later as a student he switched from beach catamarans to match racing before developing a passion for offshore sailing.

After a four year stint (2015-18) on the French solo Figaro circuit, in 2020-21 Dutreux took on his first Vendée Globe solo around-the-world race, finishing in ninth place – an unexpected result in a 13-year-old boat. Shortly after he joined German skipper Robert Stanjek’s Offshore Team Germany to win the inaugural edition of The Ocean Race Europe.

In November 2022 Dutreux finished eighth in the IMOCA class in the singlehanded Route du Rhum transatlantic race from St. Malo to Guadeloupe.

Previous participation in The Ocean Race:
Taking part in The Ocean Race for the first time.
