Germany’s Robert Stanjek (41) is an Olympian and experienced offshore racer who began his sailing career at the German Yachtclub Berlin-Grünau.
Sailing with crewmate Frithjof Kleen he won the 2008 doublehanded Star class European championship. In 2011 the pair finished second in the Star world championship, before being selected to represent their country in the Star at the London 2012 Olympic Games, where they finished in sixth place. In 2014, Stanjek and Kleen were crowned Star class world champions on Italy’s Lake Garda.
With the Star class eliminated from the Olympics Stanjek turned his attention to ocean racing and after training with the Dutch syndicate Team Brunel for The Ocean Race 2014-15 set his sights on leading his own around-the-world campaign.
In 2021 Stanjek led Offshore Team Germany (the precursor to GUYOT environnement – Team Europe) to victory in the IMOCA division of the inaugural edition of The Ocean Race Europe.
