The daughter of two sailing parents, France’s Amélie Grassi put her law degree on hold in 2017 to explore opportunities as a professional ocean racer.

During two years racing on the Mini 6.50 circuit – where she was a regular podium finisher over the 2018 and 2019 seasons – Grassi (29) graduated to the larger Class 40 fleet where she became solo skipper of La Boulangère Bio.

Three days after the start of the 2022 Route du Rhum solo transatlantic race from France to the Caribbean her 40-foot yacht was dismasted while in tenth place in the 41-boat Class 40 fleet.

Grassi is racing around the world for the first time in the 2022-23 edition of The Ocean Race.
