Dutch Olympian sailor Annemieke Bes is returning to The Ocean Race after competing on board the Hong Kong entry Team Sun Hung Kai/Scallywag in the 2017-18 edition.

Annemieke Bes (45), began her Olympic career in the singlehanded Europe and Laser Radial classes, before switching to the three-person Yngling women’s keelboat in 2001.

After finishing fourth in the Athens 2004 Olympic Games alongside Annelies Thies and Petronella de Jong, Bes went on to win a silver medal at the Beijing 2008 Olympics, sailing with crewmates Merel Witteveen and Mandy Muller. Bes also represented the Netherlands in the Elliott 6m class at the London 2012 Olympics – sailing with Muller and Marcelien Bos-de-Koning.
