French yachtswoman Marie Riou returns to The Ocean Race for the second consecutive edition after racing as part of the Chinese entry Dongfeng Race Team when they won the 2017-18 race.

A former women’s match racing world champion, Riou skippered the French team in women’s match racing at the London 2012 Games. Between 2013 to 2016, sailing with French skipper Billy Besson, Riou (42) won four consecutive world titles in the Nacra 17 class. Together Besson and Riou raced for France at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.

In 2019, as flight controller for the French team, Riou became the first female sailor to compete on the SailGP international high performance circuit.
