French yachtsman Charles Caudrelier is well known to fans of The Ocean Race having won the around the world race twice – first in 2011-12 as part of Franck Cammas’ French Groupama Sailing Team, and again in 2017-18 as skipper of the Chinese-flagged Dongfeng Race Team – as well as skippering the Chinese entry to third place in 2014-15.

Caudrelier (49) cut his teeth on France’s solo Figaro circuit  – the proving ground for all aspiring ocean racers – where he finished first rookie in 1999 before going on to win the multistage offshore race outright in 2004. His impressive track record also includes two wins in the doublehanded Transat Jacques Vabre – in 2009 with co-skipper Marc Guillemot on board the IMOCA Safran, and in 2013 with fellow Frenchman Sébastien Josse on the MOD70 Gitana XV.

In 2019, Charles Caudrelier became skipper of the Gitana Team’s Ultim multihull Maxi Edmond de Rothschild ; the first Flying Offshore maxi-trimaran. He shares this role with Franck Cammas and together for three seasons the two men will win everything: Rolex Fastnet Race, Transat Jacques Vabre, Brest Atlantiques...

Most recently Caudrelier has made the headlines by winning the 2022 edition of the Route du Rhum single handed transatlantic and is scheduled to contest the 2023 Transat Jacques Vabre and the first race solo around the world in Ultim, Arkea Ultim Challenge, starting in January 2004.
