Although taking part in The Ocean Race for the first time French naval architect Charlie Dalin is a household name in his home country after his stunning rookie performance in the 2020-21 Vendée Globe single handed around the world where he finished in second place aboard his IMOCA Apivia.

Having started sailing at the age of six, Dalin set his sights on a professional career in offshore racing after graduating from Southampton University’s naval architecture school in 2006. In 2011 he and co-skipper Gildas Morvan (FRA) won the doublehanded Transat AG2R La Mondiale. Dalin went on to twice be crowned Elite French Single handed Offshore Racing Champion (2014 - 2016).

After serving his time on the French Figaro single handed offshore circuit he graduated to the IMOCA circuit backed by the French insurance company Apivia. Following his second place in the last Route du Rhum Dalin has a new IMOCA under construction on which he will take on the 2024-25 edition. Dalin is also a two time IMOCA world champion.
