French sailor Martin Le Pape (34) is an up and coming name in the French ocean racing world having established a strong reputation for his sailing skills and highly competitive nature.
Le Pape – who is competing in The Ocean Race for the first time – began his sailing career as a top flight windsurfer on both the French domestic and international stage while he was still a teenager.
After managing his own J80 one-design crewed keelboat campaign to a second place in the 2012 French national championship, he switched to solo sailing and has since competed on both the Solitaire du Figaro and Class 40 circuits.
More recently Le Pape has turned his attention to the IMOCA class where he has set his sights on a future tilt at the solo nonstop Vendee Globe race. In 2021, racing with Italian co-skipper Giancarlo Pedote aboard Prysmian Group, he finished sixth in the doublehanded transatlantic Transat Jacques Vabre.
