Crew

United Kingdom/Australia

Date of birth: 18 January 1991
Place of birth: Taree, Australia

Jackson spent the first 14 years of his life in Australia, the country-continent where he was born. So it was on the Gold Coast that he started out in dinghy sailing before migrating to England and then France. A graduate of the latest generation Artemis Offshore Academy - the school of excellence for Anglo-Saxon sailors - he competed in his first Solitaire du Figaro at the age of 22, winning the rookie ranking. It was enough to quickly put this inveterate sportsman into orbit ... on the ocean racing planet.

He soon became a key player in the VOR and IMOCA Classes, with an unfulfilled Vendée Globe ambition for the time being. Jack is a great specialist in crewed races with stopovers, whether as a shore technician in his early days, then as watch captain or co-skipper. "I've competed in every ‘Ocean Race’ event since 2014," he confides, including two round-the-world victories.

His experience of this type of organisation, the intensity of the format and his perfect knowledge of the IMOCA boats and the course will be invaluable to the Biotherm team, with whom he will be working from Kiel to Cartagena. "He's the champion par excellence, the perfect crew member, capable of adapting to any situation very quickly," says Paul Meilhat.

"I'm going to arrive fresh, super-motivated, with a desire to contribute ideas, performance goals and also, a little bit, my Anglo-Saxon side," replies Jack. Last but not least, he is the title holder for the first edition of The Ocean Race Europe (in VO65), which will take place in 2021.

"I love the format of The Ocean Race Europe: short, very coastal legs, lots of manoeuvres and constant changes in the weather," confides Jack. "I'm very familiar with this type of event and its organisation, and I know that there's a lot of technical, logistical and human management involved, as well as a real race before the race to prepare everything in advance. I'm going to arrive ‘fresh’ and give it my all over the first three legs."
