Relay4Nature: the Mission

We are in a race for the ocean

Relay4Nature: The Mission

A healthy ocean is fundamental to all life on Earth. The seas produce over half of the planet's oxygen and provide food for billions of people. The ocean is also a hero in the fight against climate change, absorbing excess heat caused by the burning of fossil fuels and drawing down a quarter of the carbon dioxide that's been emitted.

However, despite being the largest habitat on earth, covering some 70% of the Earth’s surface, the ocean still receives far too little attention from world leaders.

We created Relay4Nature to help to give the ocean a voice on the critical issues affecting our planet at the landmark events where decisions are made about the environment. The initiative from The Ocean Race and UN Secretary-General's Special Envoy for the Ocean, Peter Thomson, connects the threats to the natural world and calls on world leaders to radically increase their ambitions to protect and restore the seas.
