Paul Meilhat and Biotherm are closing in on a fantastic leg 5 win that will secure them the overall victory in The Ocean Race Europe.
2100 local time on Sunday:
Biotherm is really pushing along towards the finish line at pace now, with and ETA at the finish line off Boka Bay between 2300 and midnight. It's an incredible performance by Paul Meilhat and his team.
1430 local time on Sunday:
It's tough out there!!
“You would think these are pretty steady, similar conditions, but it is not easy,” explains Team Holcim - PRB sailor Carolijn Brouwer. “The wind is up and down between nine and 12 knots. When we are sailing upwind when we get to 12 knots we are at the upper range of the big sail we have on – the J0. The wind is incredibly shifty – 20 to 25 degrees sometimes.
1230 local time Sunday:
Speeds are up slightly, but there is very little wind forecast for most of the afternoon. The distance to go is ticking down slowly, now only 85 miles for Biotherm, and their nominal lead is about 15 miles, but there is still this massive split with Paprec Arkéa out to the east. So far, Biotherm looks safe, but there is still time for this to play out.
1030 local time Sunday:
Interesting times on the race course this morning with Yoann Richomme's Paprec Arkéa splitting to the east of the fleet to sail up the Albanian coast, while the rest of the leading quintet, including leg leader and overall race leader Biotherm, are hugging the Italian coastline.
In both cases, the teams are looking for shore effect breezes as there is very little gradient wind in the forecast today.
This is likely a calculated gamble by Richomme who needs to win this leg to have any hope of challenging Biotherm for the overall lead. It will be fascinating to watch this play out over the day.
1015 local time Sunday:
The final touches are going into the Ocean Live Park in Tivat, Boka Bay today in advance of the arrival of the sailing teams Monday morning. The latest ETA is for early morning Monday - with a finish near 0500 and an arrival at the pontoon in Tivat closer to 0700.
