Canada Ocean Racing lead Team Amaala into Boka Bay
The Be Water Positive Team (CAN) secures sixth place ahead of Team Amaala
Scott Shawyer's Canada Ocean Racing, led by Pip Hare for leg 5, arrived in Boka Bay on Tuesday afternoon to secure sixth place on leg 5.
Leg 5 - 6th place - Canada Ocean Race - Be Water Positive
Leg finish time - 16/09/2025 12:36:40
Elapsed time - 8 days 23 hours 36 minutes 40 seconds
Scoring - 2 points
The result all but locks the Canadian team into sixth place on the leaderboard.
"This last leg was the toughest leg of The Ocean Race Europe," Pip Hare said. "We knew it would be hard because it was so long, and these waters are so tricky, so we knew it would be a challenge. Unfortunately we got left behind early in the leg when we had a few moments with no wind and we never really found an opportunity to come back into it, so it was not only a challenge from a sailing perspective but from a mental perspective as well."
But she said the team remained motivated and focussed all the way to the finish.
It would be easy to become despondent or to play the blame game when you get behind like this, but twe’ve always been honest about this being a learning experience and so we have been starting each day saying, 'what can we learn, how can we be better today than we were yesterday?' and that's been our approach.
"And now we know so much more about this boat, as we've been gaining knowledge and experience, and I think we feel like we’re staring to know this boat like the more experienced teams know their boats and that's going to make us better."
Behind them, Team Amaala finished just as the sun was setting on Tuesday evening.
Leg 5 - 7th place - Team Amaala
Leg finish time - 16/09/2025 17:32:08 UTC
Elapsed time - 9 days 4 hours 32 minutes 8 seconds
Scoring - 1 point
It was a long leg for the team - the last couple of days they've had very little food on board - but for all that, the team was very upbeat on arriving at Boka Bay.
"It's a mix of feelings," said skipper Alan Roura. "You’re excited to arrive but a bit sad that something amazing is coming to an end. It was a long leg but we really enjoyed it and it was a nice finish this evening with the sunset in this beautiful setting."
Roura and his team pushed hard all the way to the finish, nearly catching Canada Ocean Racing at one point as the teams crossed tacks entering the Adriatic. For Roura it is a rivalry he's not ready to concede ahead of the coastal race on Saturday.
"My goal since the beginning was to beat the Canadian team and that didn’t happen. But it’s not over yet!! We still have the coastal race. And I think we did make them scared the past couple of days. We pushed really hard and came very close… That shows me I need to come back with a more competitive boat to fight with the others. We were close, but still quite far in the end."
