Ulysse Nardin The Ocean Race Diver Chronograph / €16,000

Design, engineering and sustainability combine to mark 50 years of offshore sailing excellence.

As rare objects made to last generations, luxury watches face fewer environmental pressures than most other products. Ulysse Nardin refers to its timepieces as ‘sustainable by essence’, pointing to its ethical sourcing, localised production and alliances with leading ocean health advocates.

But as the name credited with making the first marine chronometer back in 1846, the Swiss watchmaker’s duty to innovation is considerable. New advances must align with modern values: an ethos perfected on the company’s debut design for The Ocean Race which explored new avenues for recycled materials in 2022.

The company continues this trajectory with The Ocean Race Diver Chronograph. Signature features include a Carbonium® timing bezel made from aircraft fuselage offcuts. Developed in-house to counter the impact of standard carbon composites, Carbonium® boasts incomparable strength and a superb, marbled texture.

Made to celebrate 50 years of offshore grand-prix sailing, hashes and accents on the Diver Chronograph use the race’s distinctive sky blue as markers of high performance. Its 44mm DLC titanium case is water-resistant to 300 metres, and houses a self-winding UN-150 movement with a three-register chronograph, date display and 48-hour power reserve. Limited to 100 pieces.
