Breathe easy with the Briiv Air Filter / €390

Nature meets high-tech, as award-winning design delivers clean air without clogging up the planet.

If there’s one thing that recent events have hammered home, it’s the impact that dirty air has on our wellbeing. With toxins and allergens steadily rising, the last years have seen a slew of new purification devices hit the market. And while they can do wonders for indoor air quality, their HEPA (high-efficiency particulate air) filters need regular replacement and can’t be recycled.

Enter Briiv, a British innovator winning awards with its hands-on approach to organic design. Billed as the world’s most sustainable air purification device, the Briiv Air Filter’s 3-layer filter system uses compostable moss, coconut husks and silk-based nano-fibres to do the equivalent work of 3,000 houseplants. (That’s a lot of houseplants!)

Designed to keep air clean for a year, the certified B Corp’s biodegradable filters eliminate landfill – possibly the only thing more zen than watching its green undergrowth silently working away. The device’s industrial specs are similarly impressive, with a housing made from elephant grass/hemp bioplastics, cork and glass, and low energy consumption of under 11 kWh per year.

With a footprint of only 16x16 cm, the Briiv Air Filter occupies the space of a large smart speaker but does its talking with portability and performance. Simple to set up, it only needs about an hour to circulate the air of a standard, 36m2 room. Included in the purchase price is year’s supply of filters – ready to plug in and get you breathing easier.
