Racing to protect the seas in Ocean Live Park
Nature is at the heart of The Ocean Race and protecting it is central to all we do, including in Ocean Live Park, the site in each of our host cities where visitors get to experience the Race firsthand.
Ocean Live Park has been created to be as sustainable as possible and to inspire visitors to join us in taking action for the ocean. Here are some of the highlights:
One Blue Voice Immersive Experience
The One Blue Voice Immersive Experience, which has been created in collaboration with 11th Hour Racing, takes visitors on a journey beneath the waves to discover the race to protect the seas. An engaging multisensory holographic show* will give visitors a new perspective on the ocean and introduce them to some of its unsung heroes.
Outside, in the action zone, is the chance for people to take a deeper dive and discover how they can make a difference with a range of engaging ocean-themed activities. Visitors can take a quiz to discover their ocean voice, snap a sea-themed selfie and help create a better future for our blue planet by signing the petition for a Universal Declaration of Ocean Rights.

Discover how sailors are supporting science
In this edition of The Ocean Race, teams will collect more data about the environment than any sporting event in the world. Boats will measure microplastic pollution, gather information about the impact of climate change on the ocean and collect data to improve global weather forecasting. Visitors can discover more about the innovative science programme in the One Blue Voice Immersive Experience action zone and through special science shows, which are taking place on the main stage.
Learning workshops
The Ocean Race is helping children and young people understand the issues affecting our marine world and inspiring them to join us on the journey to protect and restore the seas with fun and informative Learning programmes for 6-16 year olds. Workshops will be held for local school children in Ocean Live Park around the key themes in the programmes. During our last Race 20,000 students attended a workshop and we hope to reach even more this time.
Wisdom’s Way
Wisdom’s Way is a self-directed and family-friendly activity. Visitors can collect a Wisdom’s Way passport and hunt around the Ocean Live Park to find out more about ocean health, ocean rights, science and sailing and the Race.
Sustainability in Ocean Live Park

Ocean Live Park runs on renewable energy, wherever possible, using solar power, hydrogen fuel cells and even a people powered energy floor to power the Park in some locations. This is part of efforts to reduce the greenhouse gas emissions of this edition of the Race by 75%, compared with the previous edition. We’re also working with teams, partners and suppliers to help them reduce their emissions.
All materials across the site are carefully selected, for example our event flags are made from recycled plastic and, along with the onsite banners, will be recycled by the manufacturer at the end of the Race.
As with the last race, where we avoided 1,000,000 items of single-use plastic, there will be no single-use plastic in food and beverage service. Instead there will be reusable cup systems, water refill points and compostable serviceware.
* The multisensory holographic show will feature in Alicante, Newport and Genova, while Cape Town, The Hague, Aarhus and Itajai will feature engaging 2D films.
