As sailors, we're seeing firsthand the devastating impact of pollution, climate change and industrial overfishing on our ocean. At the same time we have a greater understanding of how important our seas are, not just to the sport we love, but in regulating our climate and providing us with food, jobs and half of the oxygen we breathe.

This is why we are Racing for the Ocean, harnessing the ambition of our round-the-world race, and the unifying power of sport, to be a catalyst for change.

The Ocean Race has a global stage, and we use it to fight for our blue planet.

Our mission aligns with the UN Ocean Decade Challenge 10: restoring society's relationship with the ocean. Through our Racing for the Ocean sustainability programme, we help people of all ages connect with the ocean in meaningful and memorable ways, using the power of sport, science, education and storytelling to deepen understanding, shift attitudes toward the marine environment, and inspire action.

By championing the ocean's rights and creating opportunities for people to engage with the challenges and solutions facing our blue planet, we aim to turn awareness into commitment, and commitment into lasting action for a healthier ocean.

From the sports industry to children, businesses to governments, our work spans communities around the world. Explore how we bring this to life through our Learning programmes, Summits, Ocean Science, Relay for Nature and Sustainable Sport, along with the many people involved in making it happen.

From our pioneering Science programme, which provides millions of pieces of data to organisations at the forefront of studying ocean health, to our inspiring Learning programmes, which have been used by over 255,000 students in 90 countries, we are dedicated to making a real difference.

Our Summits have brought together some of the world's most influential voices: Prime Ministers, the Secretary-General of the United Nations, renowned ocean advocates, scientists and indigenous leaders. Together, they helped build a case for a Universal Declaration of Ocean Rights, which was presented during the United Nations General Assembly in New York in 2023. Our work doesn't stop there. We continue to host high-level events where we put ocean health in the spotlight and bring together those with the power to act and push for the bold policies and binding commitments our ocean urgently needs. 

Our efforts have not gone unnoticed. The Ocean Race has been recognised with a number of awards, including the Sustainability Award at the International Sports Awards and Gold and Silver Awards for Sustainability Education at the Reimagine Education Awards.

The International Olympic Committee featured The Ocean Race's World Sailing Sustainability Education Programme as an official Olympic Movement Case Study for advancing environmental education and marine protection, while IUCN highlighted the efforts of the Science programme, accolades that reflect the dedication and ambition of everyone involved.
